North Texas Eye Care Disease Management
Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry Eye Syndrome is a very symptomatic disease that effects more than 60% of the United States population. As many of you know, Texas is one of the highest recorded states for seasonal allergies as well, which only adds to the severity of dry eye syndrome. At North Texas Eye Care, we developed a dry eye syndrome treatment protocol in office. If patients are not interested in our non-invasive surgical procedure, we can offer a variety of topical prescriptions to help with the symptoms of dry eye syndrome.
Punctal Plug Insertion
At North Texas Eye Care, we perform an in-house surgical procedure in which we insert a small silcon plug into the punctum of the eye (tear duct). This procedure is covered by ALL major medical insurances. The plug makes the drainage system of the eye smaller by closing off the outer edges of the punctum. This effectively holds the natural tears in the eye, rather than draining them through the sinus cavity. The procedure is performed under topical anesthetic with high magnification (slit-lamp). First, the doctor will gauge the size of the plug with a small metal instrument. When the size is attained, the doctor will use a one-time use sterile punctal plug inserter to insert the plug into the punctum. The procedure is painless and can typically be performed in less than 5 minutes. In addition to performing the procedure with a standard punctal plug, we offer different styles of premium punctal plugs to insure that the plug is not spontaneously ejected (Standard Eagle Plug, Super Eagle Plug, and Superflex Eagle Plug). Each design is formulated to fit each patient differently and comes in a variety of sizes. For more information about the types of punctal plugs we offer, please visit our punctal plug provider Eagle Vision.
